Here an overview of the latest news will be displayed
Pico Sol focuses on three countries: Cambodia, Ghana and West-Papua. We take the support of initiatives for solar projects in these into consideration. For an overview of some of our projects we supported, click here, and you will find a project list.
Our programm in Cambodja started in 1999 with realisation of small projects at orphanages. Projects succeeded each other. We co-operated with the Dutch volunteer Arjen Luxwolda, who went to Cambodia every year for a few times to carry out our projects. Eventually, this leaded to the establishment of the company Kamworks. With this company, we got disposal on a wonderful realisation machine to carry out larger projects. When Kamworks proved to operate well, we established the Cambodian NGO Pico Sol Cambodia, to secure and extend a long term co-operation.
Cambodja is for us the example of how we want to operate in other countries. First by setting up some pilot projects in the country, to increase our knowledge of the country. After this: Capacity building. With this capacity, we can support step by step more and bigger projects, and more important: Secure the long term operation of these projects.
In Ghana we co-operate with Tro-Tro Foundation, a Dutch charity with own programme in the region of Hwidiem, a small rural provincial town in Ghana. In 2005 we realised our first project: In the village of Twabidi we built a clean water system in co-operation with the local population. This system was powered by a solar pump, near the well. In 2009 the second clean water project in the next village (close to Twabidi) will be executed.
In West-Papua (the Indonesian part of Papua, formerly Irian Jaya) we co-operate with Rajori, a Dutch charity that supports several projects on the island of Biak (to the north of the main island). In 2007 a water distribution system for the village of Sowek has been realised. Also here, a solar pump played a crucial role. In 2009 two new projects will be realised, also clean water systems with solar pumps.
